A visit to New York City, 2025

My family and I spent a well-deserved vacation in New York towards the end of September. It was a great trip, full of adventures and photographic opportunities. We visited the San Gennaro festival in Little Italy, watched the Yankees clinch a spot in the postseason at Yankee Stadium, caught a Broadway show and enjoyed some fantastic meals.

Deciding the best photos from the trip has been so difficult! Some are artistic, some resonate with me emotionally, and others are personal. I’ll spare you the personal photos and try to stick to ten pictures (plus a bonus photo) that I think represent the city best as it exists in 2025. Enjoy!

The Katyn Memorial in Jersey City, NJ. The memorial is a dedication to the victims of Stalin’s March 5, 1940 massacre, in which thousands of Polish Army officers and intellectual leaders who had been interred at Kozielsk, or imprisoned at Ostashkov and Starobielsk, had been killed by the NKVD.

The twin towers of the World Trade Center may be gone, but clever placement helps me reimagine them in spirit.

My attempt, using the architecture available, to recreate the spirit of the original Twin Towers.

The 9/11 Memorial. Roses are placed next to the names of the fallen who happen to have a birthday that day.

At the memorial fountains of the 9/11 Memorial, the names of three thousand victims are inscribed in bronze. A rose is placed in the name of a victim who would have celebrated a birthday on the day visited.

The “R” train arrives at the Cortlandt Street Station.

The Empire State Building is illuminated in special colors depending on the occasion. On this night, the light scheme was blue to celebrate the new Bleu De Chanel L’Exclusif fragrance.

This image makes me so homesick. I was originally raised in New York City and our vacation brought back so many wonderful memories as we made new ones. There is no other city like New York.
